Family Traditions

Over the last few weeks I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about traditions big and small, those we do everyday or every holiday. In our family our holiday traditions are strong, and already Jacob has been a part of those traditions, going to the orchard for apples in the fall, going to the pumpking patch, and in our home this year decorating for the fall holidays. I’ve even got the tree outside strung with lights, all ready for the big lighting at Thanksgiving.

Today Jake and I started two new traditions…mommy and baby yoga (which we’ll do every other day) and trips to the books store. When I was little I eagerly awaited every Friday when we would go to the book store and buy a new book. Jake and I will be going to Barnes and Noble twice a month to buy a new book and share a snack (when he’s old enough)…then we’ll sit at home and read together!

I’ve really been trying to give Jake a variety of activites throughout the day, and continuity. We’ve been reading him a bedtime story everynight…and so far he likes the quiet cuddle time with Mommy and Daddy. I guess it’s the years of teaching classes coming through but I’m sure Jake will happily benefit from my experience! Well here are a couple of pics I snuck in today, I’ll post more Halloween pictures tomorrow. We’re going to visit the grandparents tonight.

3 Month Birthday!

I am the extremely proud mommy of a 3 month old baby boy! Now that the shock of actually having a son had finally worn off it actually feels like he’s been a part of our family forever. Three months ago I was sure that good things didn’t happen to infertiles like me and Thor, that we’d never be parents, and that 6 months of being in the book was long enough. Who knew three months later I’d practically be doing back flips like a trained poodle just for a smile from my little Jake.

As soon as this rain breaks (the weatherman has the weather permanently set to “drizzle”) then I will take his three month pictures. I’m desperate to get some more great shot of Jacob so everyone can truly appreciate his cuteness. I can get my client’s kids to give me great big genuine smiles but not Jake…he’s on to me. Maybe I should hide my camera inside a puppet and try!

Jake is all about color this month. He loves watching the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Manny the Handyman on Disney every morning. Yesterday he decided to sing along with Mommy while i was changing him…it made my year! And yes, he has a beautiful singing voice.

Updates!

Just wanted to post and let everyone know that Jake is still doing well and growing like a weed. He’s almost 13 pounds. He’s so happy and smart and alert. I’m making it my mission to capture his funniest moments on camera this week. Thursday we leave for Illinois to see our family. We can’t wait, our first family vacation. I also wanted to share a little story…don’t forget to check out the slideshow below!

The other day I was changing Jake in the nursery and looking for a clean bib when i noticed something caught his attention. He was holding his head up and craning around to see this picture we have on the wall of his birthmom holding him in the hospital. My normally noisy kid was silent and just staring. I said “that’s your birthmom, L., do you remember growing in her tummy?” he just kinda looked at me and looked back. Then I said “she loved you so much that when you were born she picked out mommy and daddy just for you” and all of the sudden a huge smile…still quiet…but a huge grin. A little brain already contemplating and understanding.
