Just keep swimming…

Some days motherhood sucks.

Why doesn’t anyone ever say that?  They should have a chapter in every baby book titled “parenting can suck too”.  When you bring that sweet new baby home you never think that you’ll be horribly embarrassed when he chucks his sippy cup clear across the restaurant at lunch, that you’ll have to wrestle him to get him into a diaper while he kicks and screams like you’re killing him, or that you’ll want to put him in a box and ship him to Grandma when he won’t go down for a nap.

Corn-and-boob-tastrophy

While blow drying my hair the other day, I hear a weird noise coming from the living room area where I’d left Chibby sitting on the couch watching Nemo.  I turn off the dryer and head out into the living room.

The backseat driver

Chibby and I were the way to Techie’s office today when the red SUV next to us merged into our lane (because giant shiny blue mini-vans are hard to spot on perfectly clear days like today) and nearly merged into our van.

My son, seeing nothing but a wall of red coming right at his window shouts “whoa mama!”

As the crazy swerved back to the right and slammed on the breaks (cuz one near collision is never enough) I called back to Chibby “not whoa mama, whoa that guy”

As the red SUV pulled closer again my son starts shouting wildly “whoa dat…whoa…whoa dat dat dat” jabbing his chubby little finger into the window and knitting his brow with all his might.

You tell ‘em kiddo.

Just the two of us…

After a long day of flying, car rental, wrong hotel directions, and getting up way too early I had pretty much decided that Chibby and I would spend today at the hotel while Techie did his thing.  This morning with a full night of sleep and full tank of bravery I thought I’d take Chibby to Sea World, at least until he melted down, and then we’d come back and hang out until dad was done.

I expected a long hot stressful day but what I got was an unexpectedly perfect day….just the two of us.

Stay at home mom: is it real work or really easy?

I stumbled across an innocent little blog post this morning about a stay-at-home mom bumper sticker on a minivan.  It was a nice little post from a working hubby who was showing some respect for the work that stay-at-home moms (& dads too) do.  The post it self was short and sweet, but the commentary left by “anonymous” thereafter was inflammatory to this stay at home mom in particular.

Chocolate chips & boogers…

Chocolate chips and boogers, phrases I never thought I’d say.

A couple of pre-baby years ago, Techie and I were making a late night grocery run to Wal-Mart when my husband spotted an open bag of chocolate chips on the shelf.  Being the trouble maker that he is he grabbed a handful and began pelting me with them as I shopped.  “Stop” I said teasingly, “some little kid is gonna try to eat those off the floor.” More pelting ensued as he said “no kid is going to eat these off the floor”.
